“So when it hits, don’t forget
As scary as it gets
It’s just turbulence”
Change is a stressor for everyone. Some people may have exercised this muscle a bit more, making it look easy, but it is challenging for each stakeholder. Sometimes the challenge arises as soon as you leave the design phase of the project; other times, it occurs later, but there will inevitably be a period of extreme pushback and challenges from the business.
This is where a flexible change plan and a listening ear can be invaluable. It’s crucial to step back and truly listen to what the naysayers need. This will help determine the appropriate response, whether it be a simple acknowledgment of their concerns or a critical change to the plan due to their insights. When these situations arise, put on your active listening ears, take a deep breath, and remember, “It’s just turbulence.”
