“I can see the diamonds in the dust. There’s beauty in the ruins of us.” *
I had a mentor once tell me, the biggest risk is the one we cannot possibly see. It is possible for us to get it completely wrong even when we have complete accountability and 100% engagement. So what do we do when those failures occur.
It is big talk to speak about leaning into failure right now. I love it. And at the same time I feel like we talk about the tag line but there is little direction in how to find the “beauty in these ruins.”
Here are some things to consider as you navigate these conversations:
- What are the things we did well in this project?
- Where did we align with our values?
- Where did we fall short of our values?
- What did the team culture look like through this initiative?
Here is the trick, now that you have reflected and you have this information, figure out where and how it is appropriate to share it. Apply these learnings and take the “diamonds from the dust.”
We do become stronger from our failures, but only if we take time to learn and apply the beauty from them.
